Meet Our Instructors
Arthur R. Gary ABR, AHS, ASR, CBR, C-CREC, CRS, CSR, E-BUYER, ESRES, GRI, SRES
Arthur has been a real estate broker for since 1979. He has taught real estate courses since 1983. Arthur has given real estate courses throughout the Northeast for various boards of REALTORS®, Century 21, the University of Southern Maine, GRI and numerous real estate companies. He instructs the Sales Agent course, Associate Broker course, a Sales Agent Exam Preparation course, The Designated Broker course, a Maine non-resident exam prep course and numerous continuing education and designation courses. Arthur also does work for real estate companies on their Policies & Procedures Manuals, forms, etc.
Arthur has been Education Committee Chairman for both the Western Maine and the Portland Boards of REALTORS® as well as a Member of the Maine Association of REALTORS® Education Committee and on the Board of Directors of Tri-State REALTORS® Institute. He is also past President of the Real Estate Educators Association of Maine, and past President and Treasurer of the Portland Board of REALTORS®. He is presently a practicing real estate broker, on the Board of Directors of the Maine Association of REALTORS® and a member of the Maine Association of REALTORS® Legislative Committee, as well as a real estate educator and consultant.
He has written student outlines and instructor texts for the Associate Broker and the Sales Agent courses. These outlines and instructor texts are being used by various instructors, throughout Maine.
Arthur was honored, twice, by being selected Real Estate Educator of the Year, by REEA Maine. His Associate Broker course was, twice, selected as the Prelicensing Course of the Year. The course 'You Worked Hard For Your License - Don't Let It Be Taken Away’ and the course 'Multiple Offers- The Licensee's Role' were also awarded the Continuing Education Course of the Year by the Real Estate Educators Association of Maine. Arthur was also honored by being selected the Portland Board of REALTORS®, REALTOR OF THE YEAR for 1998.
Julie Bayley
Julie has held a real estate license in Maine since 1988 and a member of the Greater Portland Board of REALTORS® since 1989. She is currently the Owner and Designated Broker of Bayley Realty, Inc. in Waterboro, Maine. Julie’s many activities include serving on the MRERC Board of Directors, President of the MRERC, and a member of the Scholarship Committee of the Greater Portland Board of REALTORS®. Julie has conducted numerous classes and training sessions in the real estate arena.
Walter Boomsma
Prior to obtaining his real estate license six years ago, Walter owned and operated a human resource consulting business working with organizations nation-wide to implement systems and practices designed to support learning and encourage excellence. He also developed and delivered training programs and was a featured keynote speaker for numerous companies, associations, civic and educational groups. Walter has taught the Maine Sales Agent course, Maine Associate Broker course and was part of the team that developed the current core course. He also teaches courses in sales, public speaking, and thinking skills. As a volunteer “bookworm” with third graders at the local primary school and says he “learns a lot” from the stories they read to him and the conversations they have.
Gary Bourque
Gary is a Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser and President of Central Mass Appraisals, Inc., a real estate appraisal company specializing in residential valuation since 1986. He is the past owner and President of Bourque Realty, Inc. for 25 years and is currently a co-owner of Realtyology, Inc., a new blended real estate sales firm located in Leominster.
Gary is a past Board member of the North Central Massachusetts Association of Realtors® and currently serves on various committees including Education, Real Estate School, Professional Standards (Chair), Golf and Orientation where he is also an instructor for the Code of Ethics and many other real estate and real estate appraisal classes.
He is also a certified instructor for continuing education at the Central Mass Real Estate Institute, an instructor for the Massachusetts Association of Realtors®, and a Nationally Certified AQB USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) instructor by the Appraisal Foundation instructing appraisal classes in multiple states including Massachusetts, Maine and Vermont.
Gary was awarded the North Central Massachusetts Association of Realtors® Instructor of the Year for 2004 & 2005 and has recently been awarded the Massachusetts Association of Realtors® Instructor of the Year for 2008.
Anthony (Tony) Brueneman
Tony is a practicing home inspector who teaches from first hand experience. He has taught hundreds of home inspection course graduates throughout the United States. Tony is a former college professor at Xavier University and was the Executive Director of the American Association of Certified Appraisers. Tony is currently President of the Home Inspection Institute.
Darryl Chandler
Darryl has been a full time home inspector since 2003. He has taken extensive training in radon, mold, indoor air quality and subsurface waste disposal issues. Darryl is licensed to test for radon air and radon water as well as being certified in Ultrasonic testing of oil tanks and a Certified Level II Chimney Inspector. He is a fully certified inspector for the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors (NACHI). Darryl has given courses on a variety of home inspection issues since 2004 to various organizations.
Amy Chorew
Amy has been in real estate since 1981. She has been teaching REALTORS® to use technology since 1995. As an experienced salesperson and marketing director in Connecticut, Amy puts her talents to use by creating fun learning environments for her students. Amy’s straightforward approach to education is backed up by real field experience that brokers and agents appreciate as they learn new technology skills.
Kelly Cullen Ph.D.
Kelly is an Assistant Professor at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire as well as a licensed real estate broker in New Hampshire. Kelly has instructed the New Hampshire Real Estate Pre-Licensing course and various other real estate courses. Kelly is a member of EcoBroker® International, American Real Estate Society, the National Association of REALTORS®, the New Hampshire Association of REALTORS® and the Strafford County Board of REALTORS®.
Edith(Edie) Fontaine AHS
Edie is a Broker with RE/MAX By The Bay and has been a consistent top producing agent. She has been teaching for the Arthur Gary School of Real Estate since 2006. She currently teaches the sales agent course, Accredited Home Staging Designation course, many continuing education courses and the sales agent exam prep course. Edie also served on the Maine Real Estate Commission committee that wrote the current Core Course. She is a member of the Greater Portland Board of REALTORS®. She is passionately interested in the betterment of the Real Estate Industry and is an advocate for quality education for Real Estate professionals. She and her husband live in Falmouth, where 2 of her 3 children attend Falmouth Schools, and recently became an adoptive parent of a 1 year old boy.
Patricia(Patty) Flowers
Patty is Assistant Vice President, New England Business Development for Investment Property Exchange Services, Inc. Patty is not only a frequent lecturer on I. R. C. 1031 exchanges but she also has authored numerous articles on tax deferred exchanges. Investment Property Exchanges Services, Inc. provides investors with Qualified Intermediary Services for Tax Deferred Exchanges through I. R. C. 1031.
Sheryl Gregory ABR, CIPS, CRS, GRI, SRES
Sheryl is a practicing real estate broker in Maine. She has taught many continuing education and pre-licensing courses in Maine. She has been president of Kennebec Valley Board of REALTORS® and the Maine Association of REALTORS®. Sheryl was honored by being selected as Kennebec Valley Board of REALTORS® “REALTOR® of the Year” twice and once as the Maine Association of REALTORS® of the YEAR. She performs volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity and is a Commissioner to the Maine State Housing Authority as well as serving on the Maine Association of REALTORS® Foundation.
Douglas Hooper, ABR, SRES
Doug has been a real estate broker for over 18 years. In that time he has been a sales manager, a trainer, a Designated Broker as well as a national trainer. Doug also has extensive experience in property management, property maintenance and general contracting.
Candace Lightner
Ms. Lightner is a licensed REALTOR®, hired by the Department of Energy to develop a strategy that would foster market transformation by encouraging real estate licensees nationwide to become leaders in educating the buyer/sellers on the advantages of energy efficient retrofitting. She was the driving force that led to a groundbreaking relationship between the Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) resulting in a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations to be signed in May. She developed the Real Estate Initiative and created joint projects that will lead towards the education of REALTORS® nationwide to become one of the leaders in educating the buyer/sellers on the advantages of energy efficient retrofitting. She has conducted REALTOR® Roundtable discussions across the country on behalf of DOE to both educate and determine REALTORS®’ willingness to make energy efficiency a priority with both buyers and sellers. She has worked with REALTOR® Magazine and RIS Media on Energy Efficiency articles and how REALTORS® can become involved. She also developed the Energy Checklist for buyers and sellers that will be utilized in a new Energy savers brochure for clients as part of the Real Estate Initiative.
Michele Meadows, ABR, C-CREC
Michele has been practicing real estate since 1998. She has consistently been a top producer while being the Operations Manager at Bay Realty in Portland. Michele belongs to the Greater Portland Board of REALTORS® and sits on many committees along with being on the Board of Directors. Michele has served as President and Director of the Maine Real Estate Resource Center, a subsidiary of the Greater Portland Board of REALTORS®. Michele also serves on the Board of Directors of the Maine Association of REALTORS® and sits on the Contract Review Committee. Michele was the recipient of the Greater Portland Board of REALTORS® “Spirit Award”. Michele has been instructing at the Arthur Gary School Of Real Estate since 2002.
Dale Midgley
Dale upon graduation from Boston University was commissioned into the US Army. He served 5 years ending his service as a Captain. After military service, he started his career in real estate. His first listing and sale earned him a grand total of $0.00 dollars. Things have gotten better since then.
Dale’s career has spanned everything from a sales associate, manager, broker owner, sales & management director, research consultant, college teacher, author, loan officer, conference and convention speaker.
He has written numerous articles and co-authored “Golden Circle Secrets” with his son Ben. He has the rare ability to make the complex-simple and the familiar-new. Combine these attributes with good old Maine common sense plus a collection of humorous and true stories and you have a recipe for programs that are not only educational, motivational but great fun.
Andrew Nightingale
Prior to entering the home inspection profession, Andrew was a Construction Manager for a large construction firm in Maine, an Earthwork Superintendent for a Maine construction company and a Residential Insurance Inspector. Andrew is also a Certified Concrete Testing Technician and certified in Construction Safety and Health with the U.S. Department of Labor.
Richard Reibstein
Rick has worked for the Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He teaches environmental law and policy and is the founder of the Regulated Community Compliance Project at Boston University. He has lectured on environmental law and policy in the United States, Chile, Brazil, the Philippines and the Baltic States.
Elaine Richer SRES
Elaine has held a real estate broker’s license since 1981. She has taught the Sales Agent, Associate Broker and Broker courses as well as numerous continuing education and GRI courses. Elaine is the author of the widely used textbook “Maine Real Estate Principles And Practices”. Elaine is a member of the Real Estate Educators Association.
Steve Smith
Steve has been in the mortgage arena for over six years. He is presently the President and CEO of Meeting House Mortgage, Inc. Steve knows what you need to know. He has not only taught many mortgage related courses, he was an active real estate agent for five years.
Carol Thorne GRI, SRES
Carol has been practicing real estate brokerage for twenty years. She obtained her Broker license in 1989. Carol has held the position of company trainer for real estate companies for over 15 years during which time she applied her extensive experience in instructing and training real estate licensees so they could accomplish their best.
Art Vuilleumier
Art Vuilleumier is a “hands-on” multi-tasking entrepreneur and is the owner of Just-In-Time! Real Estate Technology Services. Kelly Wach
Kelly is currently the Broker/Owner of Watch Real Estate in Wells Maine. Prior to entering real estate, Kelly owned a Bed & Breakfast in Ogunquit, Maine, and was a Webmaster/Project Manager for a large Nationally known stock brokerage firm.
